Rhubarb by Candlelight!

Sunday, 24 February 2008 at 11.00 am

A visit to the rhubarb forcing sheds at Carlton, Wakefield

followed by a rhubarb themed  lunch

Rhubarb by candlelight! Slow Food North Yorkshire and Slow Food West Yorkshire have joined forces to organise this visit to E Oldroyd and Sons, producers of forced rhubarb just south of Leeds. Come along and see the plants in the candle lit forcing sheds, find out why this seasonal speciality, which is only available late December to  April, has developed as a speciality in the famous ‘rhubarb triangle’ and much more.

The occasion commences with a talk at 11.00 am on 24 February followed by a tour of the forcing sheds and lasts about 2 hours. You then have the option of eating lunch at the Rising Sun, Whitwood, Castleford, West Yorkshire WF10 5PT. Telephone 01977 554766. Lunch will be served at 1.30 pm and will, of course, have a rhubarb theme:

Homemade rhubarb and vegetable broth

-

Festival pork and rhubarb sausages

-

Rhubarb trifle

Please let us know of any special dietary needs, a vegetarian option is available.

Final bookings for both events must be confirmed in advance. If you would like to join us simply print this page, complete the details below and send with your cheque payable to Slow Food North Yorkshire to Laura Mason, 4 St John Street, York YO31 7QT. Bookings must be received by 15 February to be sure of a place. Please call Laura on 01904 628138 or e-mail lhmason@ntlworld.com if you have any questions.
