Walk on the Wild Side

Sunday, 11 May 2008 at 12.00 pm

A visit to Jerusalem Farm and an ideal opportunity to learn how to identify many of our native and delicious springtime edible greens and mushrooms.

The first of two walks planned for 2008, the second will be a mushroom hunt in September. This walk is an ideal opportunity to learn how to identify many of our native and delicious springtime edible greens and mushrooms. You will learn how to make a positive identification of the plants we find and we will discuss various ways of preparing and enjoying these wild harvested foods. The walk will last approximately 3 hours and will be capped off with some wild food sampling.

The walk will be led by local medical herbalist Jesper Launder who is passionate about both the medicinal and edible potential of our native plants. Jesper has been harvesting and eating plants and mushrooms for over 25 years.

The gradient is relatively easy going making it suitable for most ages. Please wear suitable attire. The walks tend to last up to three hours so it is worth bringing a snack and drink to keep fuel levels up. You may wish to bring a basket to make a small collection of species we find in abundance. Photographs are a great tool for aiding identification so why not bring a camera along too.
