Cheese & Ale Tasting

26 November 2008 at 7.30 pm

Come along and let Graham and Kath Williams of The Cheese Place in Haworth, our hosts for this evening, help guide you in pairing cheeses and ales.

Matching cheese with beer is surprisingly much easier than with wine. A good mature cheese is more easily partnered with a classic ale than the right red wine. Which beer with which cheese is simply largely a matter of personal taste but tried and tested combinations include a good cheddar with a glass of IPA and a stilton with Timothy Taylor's Landlord. Here is your chance to try out whatever takes your fancy. Click here for details.

The Great Mushroom Hunt

The Great Mushroom Hunt on 28 September proved to be a great success and we were again blessed with sunshine. The walk ended with a tasting of a good selection of some very tasty wild funghi. A fuller report with pictures will posted soon.

The Future Control of Food

Geoff Tansey, local researcher and writer on intellectual property, food and agriculture, and a Joseph Rowntree Visionary for a Just and Peaceful World, co-edited this first wide-ranging guide to the key issues of intellectual property and ownership, genetics, biodiversity and food security.

"As the world enters a critical phase over whether and how to feed people healthily, equitably and sustainably, the need to understanding IPR (intellectual property rights) is central. (This book) unlocks the struggle over who controls our food futures." Tim Lang, Professor of Food Policy, City University, London

Shortly after his book was published Geoff gave an introduction to these complex but vital issues to Slow Food members and others earlier this year ... (more)

Bon a-pie-tit

A pork pie is not an ideal appetiser. Too rich. Too filling. But my wife and I had a couple of hours to kill before we settled down for a late meal at a jolly Italian restaurant in Ripponden. Read Chris Arnot's venture into the world of The Pork Pie Appreciation Society ... (more)

Slow Food

Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic member-supported organisation that was founded in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes and how our food choices affect the rest of the world.
Today, we have over 80,000 members all over the world.
