The Future Control of Food

Ever wondered how big corporate interests shape and take control of the food we eat? The global rules on patents, copyright and trademarks can seem mind numbingly complex and dull, but they are used to control plants, animals and essential food resources in ways that undermine small farmers livelihoods, local food traditions and food security. A fair and sustainable food system must address these rules.

The Future Control of Food is the first guide to this vital area. Whilst a technical subject, the guide is written in plain language for the non-expert and is an essential reference for all concerned about what is happening to our food.

Geoff Tansey has worked on food, agriculture and development issues for over 30 years. In recent years his work has centred on the impact of changing global rules on patents and other forms of intellectual property on food, biodiversity, health and development. Geoff is a Joseph Rowntree Visionary for a Just and Peaceful World and seeks a world in which people can feed themselves in a sustainable way, in communities that peacefully cooperate with each other.

Come along and hear Geoff, quiz him on his arguments and gain an insight into these complex but vital issues. Only if we understand what is happening now can we make the case for change and a system that embodies the Slow Food principles of good, clean and fair food.
