The first of our now regular and popular walks will, yet
again, be an ideal
opportunity to learn how to identify many of our native and
delicious springtime edible greens and mushrooms. This time
we shall be meandering along the banks of the River Wharfe north of Bolton Abbey.
You will
learn how to make a positive identification of the plants we
find and we will discuss various ways of preparing and
enjoying these wild harvested foods. The walk will last
approximately 3 hours and will be capped off with some wild
food sampling.
The walk will be led by local medical herbalist Jesper
Launder who is passionate about both the medicinal and
edible potential of our native plants. Jesper has been
harvesting and eating plants and mushrooms for over 25
years.
The gradient is easy going alongside the river making it suitable for
all ages. Please wear suitable attire. The walks tend to
last up to three hours so it is worth bringing a snack and
drink to keep fuel levels up. You may wish to bring a basket
to make a small collection of species we find in abundance.
Photographs are a great tool for aiding identification so
why not bring a camera along too.
Please note, for any who may be tempted to indulge
in further sampling before or after the walk, that picking
or removing anything from Strid Wood is strictly forbidden.
